PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
